I fear I will always be a NARP whose only sports knowledge is that Taylor Swift is dating a football player. Realistically, most of my Paris Olympics news will come from Alex Cooper’s Olympics show for girls who are just girls and know nothing about sports. That all being said, even I’m very familiar with the name Sunisa “Suni” Lee. The decorated gymnast is the 2020 Olympic all-around champion, a six-time member of the U.S. women’s national gymnastics team, and she has six world championship and Olympic medals. No big deal.

How the fuck does she have time to date anyone when she’s doing all this winning? It’s kind of a mystery. But yeah, Suni has managed to have a serious public relationship. Suni has had one public relationship with a fellow athlete, Jaylin Smith. Jaylin is a cornerback (is the word not quarterback? how many backs are there?) on the University of Southern California’s football team, the Trojans. He and Suni went Insta official on December 26, 2021 with a cute photo of them hugging and smiling.

Suni, who is Hmong-American (the Hmong people are an indigenous group in East Asia and Southeast Asia), received criticism from some members of her community for dating outside of her race. In a December 30, 2021 post, TikTok user @alixvangphom gave Suni’s relationship announcement a thumbs up and acknowledged in his caption, “I know that Sunisa will be judged by certain eyes in the Hmong Community because her man is Black. LOVE is LOVE, no matter what race or gender you are.” He emphasized, “Keep doing you QUEEN.” We love a supportive king.

The gymnast shared her appreciation in the comments section. “This makes me so happy,” she wrote. “I’ve received so much hate😭 they support me when it’s beneficial for them never when it comes to my happiness. thank you!💗.”

Is Suni Lee Dating Anyone Now?

Based on my extensive social media research, Suni and Jaylin do not currently follow each other on Instagram, and her relationship announcement post is no longer on the grid. It was young love and she’s one of the busiest women in the world, so it’s not shocking that these two seem to have gone their separate ways.

There’s no evidence of a new special someone in Suni’s life yet… I think she’s more focused on repping Team U.S.A. at the Paris Olympics right now. Rooting for this icon, obviously!
