We need to talk about Tate McRae’s career — assuming that we’re all correct about her collabing with Morgan Wallen. On April 15, the “Greedy” singer shared an Instagram Story with a photo of an orange sports jersey emblazoned with “T8” and “MW.” While there was no caption or explicit announcement, this possible easter egg came about a week after the controversial country singer teased his first-ever duet with a female artist. (It’s not remotely surprising that he’s never worked with a woman before.) Tate and Morgan also follow each other on Instagram, so they’re clearly somewhat friendly. Sigh. Where in god’s name is Tate’s PR team? We haven’t even gotten an official collab announcement yet, and everyone on the internet (including me) is already furious about this. Girl, why him?? Why Is Morgan Wallen Controversial?
Where to even begin… This is the dude who got suspended from his record label in 2021 after there was a video of him using a racial slur that surfaced. At the time, Republic Records claimed that his racist behavior would “not be tolerated.” Morgan was also temporarily dropped from radio and streaming services including Spotify, Apple Music, and iHeartMedia. But alas, none of that lasted! His record label suspension is clearly over and he’s obviously on radio and streaming services.
He also decided to party with college girls in the midst of Covid in October 2020. He was 27 at the time, so it would’ve been questionable behavior even sans the Covid crisis. In addition, the singer’s been charged with a DUI and charged with disorderly conduct and public intoxication. And most recently, he got arrested for throwing a chair from a Nashville rooftop bar in 2024. Basically, the guy’s a real gem. (He did do one good thing for society, which was gifting us the phrase “Get me to god’s country.”)
Fans Are Upset About Tate McRae Working With Morgan Wallen
It’s understandable why fans are upset! Morgan is like the No. 1 villain in the music industry. At the end of the day, it would be a pretty weird career move for Tate to collab with this man… There’s no way she isn’t aware of his long list of controversies.
