Casual Q: Did Simone Push Her BF Ethan Off A Cliff In ‘Sirens’?

And so what if she did??

So the way that Netflix’s chic coastal mystery, Sirens, has been making me say “hey hey,” all summer probs needs to be studied. The dark comedy with a Mermaidian moniker is basically like Succession meets Revenge meets Big Little Lies on a girly hallucinogen of your choosing. Because of, well, how weird Mikayla’s waterfront whimsical world is, there are def a handful of luxury threads left dangling at the end of the series for the audience to ponder. One of the biggest being: did Mikayla or Simone push Ethan off the cliff in a homicidal rage, or nah? I need to figure this out before season 2.

When did Ethan fall off the cliff?

In episode 4, after fighting over Ethan’s surprise proposal and shoving Simone’s estranged dad in her face (Simone accuses Ethan of being an obnoxious “white knight” who doesn’t respect her trauma), Simone dumps Ethan with several harsh nos because she’d rather focus on fall in New York with Kiki, which causes Ethan to get super hammered, and stumble home on a stormy night, eventually falling off the beach cliff at the end of the episode.

Simone insisted on helping Ethan home because he was so drunk, so she was there when he fell, but there’s little hard evidence she pushed him (for now). Moments before the fall (which goes down offscreen), Ethan called Simone a beady-eyed monster and shell of a person, so you could make the argument he was on her bad side, lol. When Ethan wobbled drunk by the cliff edge, calling out for help, Simone was there, telling him, “I’m trying to help you!” But her face fell cold when Ethan accused her of being the problem.

A sec later, Simone yells, “Ethan,” and then runs toward him. The show then cuts to his blood-curdling scream being heard by everyone on the island instead of showing what happened next.

Sooo, you could interpret that as Simone yelling his name because she realizes he is falling… or, hear me out, maybe she was yelling his name with rage as she charged at the dude for being such a dick?! I kinda support it either way, TBH.

Ethan later says in the hospital, “There was a big push, and it was from you,” to Simone, so he for sure thinks she did it, but Simone’s future lovah, Peter, shuts down Ethan’s “rude” accusations. TBF, Ethan also said she had wings and laughed as she watched him fall, which seems like big blackout memory vibes.

However, what if some of it was true, meaning Simone didn’t have to push Ethan but possibly, out of anger, let him fall?? Obviously, Simone doesn’t have angel wings, but I could imagine a world in which she loomed over Ethan ruefully before she snapped back to her senses, and the image haunted his plastered mind. I mean, if Simone was totally innocent, why would the writers choose to cut away from the scene in the first place and make Peter shut Ethan up mid-ramble in his hospital bed, know what I mean?

Did someone else push Ethan in Sirens?

Honestly, it’s possible. During his drug-fueled rant in a hospital bed, the wording “there was a big push” seemed pretty particular. Maybe someone else, like Simone’s dad, pushed Ethan without being seen, and Simone had no choice but to cover it up? Devon did find Bruce hanging by the cliff in the next episode, after all.
