I’m in my medical drama addiction era and I’m embracing it. It all started with The Pitt, which naturally led to Pulse, which of course then led to The Resident. Yes, that show starring Logan Huntzberger from Gilmore Girls (Matt Czuchry) and Revenge icon Emily VanCamp. While those first two medical shows were breezy one-season binges, The Resident is literally six seasons with more than 20 episodes per season. It’s not a hobby. It’s a lifestyle, reserved for those who are really dedicated to the craft of consuming television at an unhealthy pace. Frankly, I’m not comfortable disclosing how long it took me to finish the show. But I do want to talk about the possibility that we’ll get more of the show.
The Resident originally aired on Fox, but it’s found a second life on Netflix after landing on the platform in 2024. Judging by the renewed buzz, I’m hardly the only one who’s currently obsessed and needs new episodes, stat. So, will there be a season 7 of The Resident? Here’s what we know so far.
So, The Resident was technically canceled in April 2023 after season 6 aired. At the time, the show’s cross-platform audience of 6.9 million viewers was down 12 percent from the previous season. However, a new generation of girlies has discovered the show on Netflix and yeah, we can’t get enough; The Resident quickly became one of the streamer’s top domestic English-language shows. So maybe, just maybe… there is a small chance of a new season premiering on Netflix? Or at least a spin-off? After all, we were robbed of a legit finale since the show was canceled unexpectedly.

In September 2024, Manish Dayal, who plays Devin on the show, spoke to Screen Rant about the possibility of a season 7. Turns out he’s all in. Manish said he “would have loved for the show to keep going”after season 6 — he really wanted to see Devin get married and have a family. The actor added, “I love my cast. We all miss each other and stay in touch and remain very good friends.” Okay, so there’s no cast drama preventing a new season. We love to hear it.
When asked about the possibility of reuniting for another season, Manish replied, “You better believe [I could see it return]. I would love it. It would be great for all of us to reunite and come together in a spin-off or something like that.” Fortunately for us stans, cast members Malcolm-Jamal Warner and Ian Anthony Dale have also expressed interest in returning to the show.
I feel like a new season is pretty unlikely, but hey, I’m still praying to the Netflix execs out there.
