My sports knowledge is pretty limited, especially when it comes to the Olympics. I mean, I just found out that breakdancing is including in the 2024 Paris Olympics (?). But one of the things that took me most by surprise (yes, more than the breakdancing) is that the “Gymnastics Pommel Horse” is a real-life sport that’s part of this year’s games. Actually, it’s been part of all Olympic games since 1896!! This sport, which looks totally goofy from an outsider’s perspective btw, is actually intense AF and is said to be one of the hardest events in men’s gymnastics. It basically takes a shit ton of strength and a lot of skill.

But why are we even talking about pommel horse? Well, because Stephen Nedoroscik, a U.S. gymnast, just helped his team get a bronze medal — the first time they medaled since 2008. And it wasn’t because he shined in the vault or the high bar. No, Stephen’s talent is that he’s probably one of the best people in the world at — you guessed it — pommel horse.

Who Is The Pommel Horse Guy?

Okay, so let’s get into the nitty-gritty about the man, the myth, the pommel horse legend: Stephen Nedoroscik. First off, 25-year-old Stephen isn’t just your average gymnast who stumbled upon the pommel horse and decided to give it a whirl. No, this guy is basically the Picasso of the pommel horse world, turning what looks like a glorified playground activity into a literal art form.

Stephen hails from Worcester, Massachusetts, and has been flipping and spinning since he was a kid. But his real claim to fame came when he decided to focus on the pommel horse — a move that some might have thought was, um, a bit niche. Turns out, it was genius. Stephen’s technique, strength, and sheer dedication have set him apart in a sport that’s already super competitive. And now, he’s not just another gymnast; he’s THE pommel horse king.

His videos have been shared thousands of times just off the sheer power that he delivers a perfect routine… and that he’s pretty ~quirky.~ The entire time before his routine, he just laid back with his eyes closed looking as if he was napping. And then he got up, took off his Clark Kent glasses, and wow’ed the world in just 40 seconds. Then went back to his place because hey, he only lives and breathes the pommel horse.
