If you’re a fellow Only Murders In The Building fan then you know, Meryl Streep and Martin Short play TV’s best couple. But according to the rumor mill (AKA Twitter), the romance didn’t stop at the end of filming season three. And with the premiere of season 4 making a lot of buzz, curiosity is getting the better of us again.

The two have been industry friends for decades, and always have been supportive of each other’s work. But maybe all that time playing each other’s lovers led to something more in real life. The two certainly stayed in character at the Golden Globes in January. And Martin’s latest interview with Extra has only resurfaced the dating rumors. The actor talked about his “love” for his co-star while speaking about his characters’ romance in the show. Sure, Martin. It’s just the characters that are in love.

According to a DeuxMoi newsletter early this year, the anonymous celebrity gossip account reported that there is “an industry rumor” that Meryl and Martin are supposedly dating. They finally embraced their power couple status publicly on March 13, 2025. Sources told Page Six that the actors had been dating for “well over a year” by that point.

Meryl and Martin had been single and ready to mingle for quite some time. In October, People confirmed that Meryl had quietly separated from her husband Don Gummer over six years ago. And Martin’s wife Nancy Dolman passed away in 2010.

The two reunited on the set of Only Murders in the Building to play lovers in the murder mystery show. In Aug. 2023, Meryl Streep personally thanked OMITB showrunner John Hoffman for her “beautiful” onscreen romance with Martin Short’s Oliver Putnam.

At the Golden Globes, the two sat next to each other all night. Let’s just say, if looks could tell a story, we know exactly what they think of each other. However, the Emmy winner’s rep told People in Jan 2024 that they are “very good friends, nothing more.”

But then they were photographed holding hands at the Hulu show’s Season 4 premiere on Thursday and well… it’s easy to see why fans suspected a romance IRL. “I think a friendship always grows if you work with someone and love that person,” Martin said about Meryl in a sitdown with his co-stars.

Now we must wait for them to take over as host of the next season of the Golden Bachelor (pls 🙏).
