Jennette McCurdy’s raw and revealing memoir about her abusive mother, I’m Glad My Mom Died, is… gonna be a TV show? This news is unexpected, but definitely intriguing. Considering the iCarly star’s 2022 book spent more than 80 weeks on The New York Times Best Seller list, I have a feeling the TV adaptation will see similar success. (I know I’ll be watching.) Jennette and Ari Katcher (Ramy) will write, executive produce, and showrun the series together.

The 10-episode dramedy is coming to Apple TV+ and will bring the former actress’ emotional, darkly funny story to life. According to the official logline, the show is “a heartbreaking and hilarious recounting of Jennette McCurdy’s struggles as a former child actor while dealing with her overbearing, domineering mother.” It centers on “the codependent relationship between an 18-year-old actress in a hit kids’ show, and her narcissistic mother who relishes in her identity as ‘a starlet’s mother.’” Here’s everything to know about Jennette McCurdy’s I’m Glad My Mom Died TV show, including the release date and cast.

I’m Glad My Mom Died Release Date

It seems like Apple TV+ just recently greenlit the series, so sadly, I think we still have a while to wait for a release date announcement. In her July 1 Instagram post announcement, Jennette shared a screenshot of the Deadline article and wrote, “So excited + honored that i get to create, write, and showrun this show and work with this incredible group of people.” Fellow former child stars like Dove Cameron, Alyson Stoner, Victoria Justice, and Hayley Kiyoko left supportive comments.

There’s only been one casting announcement so far, but it’s a major one: Jennifer Aniston will star as Jennette’s mother. She’ll also co-execute produce the series. And yes, she’ll manage all of that on top of The Morning Show, which is expected to get a fifth season! Stay tuned for more casting updates.

What Happened Between Jennette McCurdy And Her Mom?

Jennette’s mother, Debra, was physically and emotionally abusive, and controlled every part of her daughter’s life. She forced Jennette into the entertainment industry at a very young age, gave Jennette showers into her teen years, and regularly performed breast and “front butt” exams on her. After six years of therapy, Jennette felt ready to tell her story via the memoir.

“My earliest memories of childhood were of heaviness, and chaos,” she told People in 2022. Jennette remembered, “My mom’s emotions were so erratic that it was like walking a tightrope every day. The mood fluctuations were daily.”
