The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have worked with the streaming platform on their 2022 docuseries, Harry & Meghan, as well as Meghan’s lifestyle reality show, With Love, Meghan. This eyebrow-raising news about their Netflix deal comes after reports about a meeting between the couple’s team and King Charles’ team, and subsequent rumors that Meghan and Harry might be moving back to the U.K. soon.

Back in 2020, Meghan and Harry signed a casual $100 million agreement with Netflix. Now, the deal is set to expire without renewal in September. A Hollywood insider explained to People that the end of this multi-year production deal reflects “a shift in Netflix’s broader business strategy.” An insider told The Sun, “There’s no animosity from either side. Things have just run their course.”

For those of you who enjoy the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s Netflix content, don’t worry: This doesn’t mean Meghan and Harry won’t continue to collab with the streaming service. The second season of With Love, Meghan will still premiere on Netflix this fall. Apparently, Netflix just isn’t prioritizing massive, multi-project agreements right now.
Earlier this month, Harry sparked rumors that he and Meghan might be moving back to the U.K. On July 9, there was an interesting meeting with Meredith Maines, his chief of staff and communications director; Liam Maguire, the couple’s U.K. spokesperson; and King Charles’ communications secretary, Tobyn Andreae. But it sounds like the moving rumor is just a rumor. A source confirmed to People that Meghan and Harry are happy in California and enjoy raising their kids there. The Duke of Sussex will keep visiting the U.K. for charity work, but he has no plans to call the country home again (at least for now).
This meeting was reportedly “an olive branch and a possible reopening of lines of communication between the father and son,” who’ve been estranged for quite some time now. “It was a good first step,” an insider told the outlet. “It is always better to be talking.”
